Control Dynamics recently delivered the first Rohde & Schwarz Real Time Oscilloscope - Model RTO1024 - in Australia, to the Curtin Institute of Radio Astronomy, International Centre for Radio Astronomy Research.
The Rohde and Schwarz RTO oscilloscopes combine high signal acquisition and analysis
rates with outstanding signal fidelity. The fastest measurement rate of 1 million
waveforms/s quickly finds even the rarest of errors, and the hardware
-accelerated
realtime analysis displays the results directly on the screen. This unprecedented
speed significantly improves the active acquisition time. And the purely digital
trigger, a first for oscilloscopes, means minimal trigger jitter. The well-thought-out
operating concept brings order to the screen and sets standards for easy-to-use,
state-of-art touch screens.
Mark F. Waterson a Research Engineer at the Curtin Institute of Radio Astronomy says:
“The RTO has lived up to our expectations. I especially find the zoom functions intuitively easy to use and, coupled with the wide sample memory, very useful for looking at signal events far from the trigger point. Complex triggering conditions are also easy to set up, and we've used the I2C decode capability a fair bit to troubleshoot the sensor communications in our new receiver package. We've also found the high sampling speed & wide bandwidth useful even on relatively slow signals, discovering that we had some transients & glitching due to an unterminated signal that, while it had a low data rate had very high slew drivers. All in all, it is a vary capable & useful piece of test equipment that continues to impress me with its ease of use.”
